Seattle, WA, (OPENPRESS) November 13, 2010 -- After 20 years of programming supercomputers, and years of programming for the open-source world, Kline is publishing an e-book version of his first novel about a disabled systems administrator and his blind girlfriend. TransFinite Publishing will publish the electronic version. Perhaps courage and perseverance best characterize the story which has sustained action and adventure. Given the recent findings on traumatic brain injury and the effects of greed, ignorance, and narrow-mindedness upon society, this novel strikes its targets with subtle irony. Journey Toward the Dawn is a well-spun yarn. It will appeal to the physically disabled--especially those who have sustained traumatic brain injury; it will appeal equally to the technologically inclined; further, it is a moving romantic adventure.

Kline is the first and only multiply disabled person to attain his engineering degree and work as a programmer. Following a shoulder dislocation late in 2001, Kline's firm laid him off. To keep mind and soul occupied, he began work via distance-learning in a degree in ethics from the University of Wales, Lampeter. In July, 2010, the Department of Philosophy awarded him his M.A.

Although thinking is easier than hacking computer code--or typing anything, for that matter--writing and editing have remained a first love (despite a bum wing). A few close friends and acquaintances fairly well known, have reviewed Journey Toward the Dawn. The most notable thing is the quality and pace of the novel and Michael Hart, inventor of the electronic book, said in a review, "Once you have read a few pages, you are hooked."

The computer site, www.thought.org, went live on the Internet in April, 1994. Today it has seven sub-domains where various fellow writers [and programmers] share their work, ranging from original poetry and short fiction to computer code and advice. Gary Kline wrote for several years before attending the Ohio State University. He ignored professionals who told him that he was "too horribly handicapped" for college to do any good; after studying Zen Buddhism in San Francisco, he went back to school at Berkeley, graduating at 37. Following three years "consulting" during the brutality of the 1980's recession, he was hired by Cray Research.

Kline plans to promote his novel through electronic interviews, including chat tools, and is considering live appearances in Seattle booksellers.
