La Malbaie, Charlevoix (OPENPRESS) July 7, 2012 -- Motorcyclists mean money and members of the international program (PMI) of Charlevoix Tourism understand this. Participating restaurants, hotels, and places of interest in the Charlevoix region have a wooden sign with a motorcycle logo hanging in front of their property to be easily identified as being "motorcyclist friendly".
Unique in Canada, this new Moto-Tourism Program was initiated by avid motorcyclist Francois Gariepy. It requires business owners to sign a written contract agreeing to, among other things, providing secure parting for bikes with kickstand plates, having a basic tool kit available, a list of all emergency services on hand, and to provide cleaning rags when needed. Hotels are required to provide a washing area for bikes.
The Charlevoix region is a popular destination for motorcyclists in eastern Canada. Restaurants and hotels already welcome motorcyclists, but this new Moto-Tourism Program has increased the awareness of special requirements desired by two-wheel travelers and taken "motorcycle-friendly" to a new level of service.
Charlevoix beaches have nothing to envy of those found down South! Along the St. Lawrence coastline, the region boasts a string of fine, sandy public beaches that are perfect for swimming and spending the day enjoying outdoor activities like kayaking, pedal boating, horseback riding etc. Walkers and scenery buffs are known to particularly covet the beaches of Saint-Irénée, and Baie-Saint-Paul.
